Celebrity Bowling Tournament
In February 2012, Baton Rouge Mayor, Kip Holden, hosted the Celebrity Bowling Challenge to Strike Out Hunger in the Baton Rouge River Center. The tournament was preceded by a VIP reception where participants would meet with celebrities. Gary Young supported the event, benefiting the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Celebrities, who bowled as the fifth member of each team, included former Lady Tigers basketball star Erica White, Nolan Cain from the 2009 championship Tigers baseball team, Ben Wilkerson from the 2003 LSU football championship team, punter Derek Helton, news anchor Emily Turner, Randall Gay of the Saints, former LSU football standout Justin Vincent, former LSU softball coach Yvette Girouard, former LSU wide receiver Demetrius Byrd, Toronto Blue Jay Sean Ochinko and members of the Lady Tigers basketball coaching staff, according to local newspaper, The Advocate. Other celebrities included politicians and local radio and television personalities.
